東京マニアック観光地、今回は隅田川ナイトラン＆ウォークをご紹介！ライターのNINA自身も隅田川沿いをよくランニングしているのですが、「これってマニアックな観光地では！？」と突然天啓が（笑）！海外の方は特にランニングなど日頃から体を動かす習慣のある方も多いはず。東京でランニングをしながら見どころ満載でかつ安全な隅田川沿いをぐるっと走れるのは、一石二鳥。日本人にとっても「THE東京」を味わえるこのコースはとてもおススメ！

Introducing a Tokyo enthusiast's destination: the Sumida River Night Run & Walk! As a writer, NINA often runs along the Sumida River and suddenly realized, "Could this be considered a niche tourist spot?" Visitors from overseas, especially those with a habit of staying active, may find joy in running. Running along the Sumida River in Tokyo offers a packed and safe route, making it a two-in-one experience. It's highly recommended for both locals and foreigners to savor "THE Tokyo" through this course!

見どころはライトアップされたたくさんの橋！
The highlights include numerous illuminated bridges!

隅田川沿いを走る一番の楽しさは、さまざまな美しい橋がみられること。この写真は「新大橋」。中央区日本橋浜町と江東区をつないでいます。月島方面に進むと、「清洲橋」という青くて美しい橋にも出会えます。当時世界最美の橋と呼ばれたドイツのヒンデンブルク橋の大吊り橋がモデルだそう。2007年に、道路橋として初めて勝鬨橋・永代橋と共に国の重要文化財に指定されたのだとか。形も色も、そしてライトアップもまったく異なるデザインなのが目に楽しい！ あなたのお気に入りの橋をぜひ探してみてくださいね。

The greatest joy of running along the Sumida River is the chance to witness various beautiful bridges. This photo captures the 'Shin-Ohashi,' connecting Nihonbashi-Hamacho and Koto Ward. Heading towards Tsukishima, you'll encounter the stunning blue bridge called 'Kiyosu Bridge.' It is said to be modeled after Germany's Hindenburg Bridge, once hailed as the world's most beautiful bridge. In 2007, it became the first road bridge, along with Katsuragibashi and Eitai Bridge, to be designated as a national important cultural property. The diverse designs in shape, color, and illuminated aesthetics make it a visual delight! I encourage you to explore and find your favorite bridge along the route.

A must-check for enthusiasts is the intricate network of elevated expressways, irresistible for those passionate about urban structures, especially the iconic Shuto Expressway!

そして、楽しみが橋だけでないのもまた隅田川の魅力！首都高速が頭上に走るこのエリアでは、こんなカッコいい立体交差まで見られます。新大橋から浅草方面に進む途中にあるのは「両国ジャンクション」です。形はそこまで複雑でないですが、構造の大半が河川上にあるというのはここならでは。屋形船もしばしば通り過ぎ、古き良き下町感と立体交差の独特な構造美が混在、それこそ"東京"を感じるギャップを楽しむのもオツなものです。

Moreover, the charm of the Sumida River extends beyond just bridges! In this area where the Shuto Expressway runs overhead, you can even catch a glimpse of such cool multilevel interchanges. Along the route from Shin-Ohashi towards Asakusa, you'll encounter the 'Ryogoku Junction.' While its shape may not be overly complex, the fact that a significant portion of its structure is positioned above the river is unique to this location. Occasionally, you'll also spot traditional yakatabune boats passing by, creating a delightful mix of the nostalgic atmosphere of the old town and the distinctive structural beauty of elevated interchanges. It's a unique experience, truly allowing you to savor the contrasting facets that define 'Tokyo.'

The Sumida River Terrace is a runner's haven, with many runners, and it's a safe and secure place even for women running alone.

隅田川テラスとは、隅田川に沿って整備された親水テラスの総称です。舗装や緑化が施されており、憩いの場、散策路、公園としての役割も果たしています。隅田川の両岸約47㎞のうち約32㎞の区間で整備されており、都心の貴重な水辺空間として、多くの人に利用されています。昼夜問わずランやウォークをする人が多く、照明も設置されているので、女性一人でも不安を感じず走ることができます。昼はベンチでのんびり読書などをされている方の姿も見られます。清洲橋のたもとにはドッグランもあり、走りながらかわいいワンちゃんに心癒されることも！

The Sumida River Terrace refers to a collection of waterfront terraces developed along the Sumida River. Paved and landscaped, it serves as a place for relaxation, walking paths, and functions as a park. Spanning approximately 32 kilometers along both banks of the Sumida River out of its total 47-kilometer length, this area provides a valuable waterside space in the heart of the city and is widely used by many people. People engage in running and walking activities day and night, and with installed lighting, it provides a sense of security for women running alone. During the day, you can also spot individuals leisurely reading on benches. At the base of Kiyosu Bridge, there's even a dog run, allowing you to be charmed by adorable dogs while enjoying your run!

美しい橋＋スカイツリーがずっと見ていられる場所

浅草方面に進んでいくときの大きな楽しみはなんといってもスカイツリー！ どんどん近づき大きくなっていくスカイツリーとライトアップされた橋のコラボもまた楽しい。「蔵前橋」越しに写真を撮るのも映えます。台東区蔵前と墨田区横網を結ぶ蔵前橋は、江戸時代はじめ、幕府直轄の米蔵があった場所。隅田川テラスは壁などにも"蔵"の雰囲気が巧みに施されていて走っていてことさらワクワクするゾーンのひとつ。浅草までの間には華やかな見た目の橋が続くのでその連なりもまた美しいです。

One of the great joys when heading towards Asakusa is, without a doubt, the iconic Skytree! The increasing proximity and collaboration between the growing Skytree and the illuminated bridges make for an enjoyable spectacle. Taking photos through 'Kuramaebashi' can also be quite picturesque. Connecting Kuramae in Taito Ward and Yokomichi in Sumida Ward, Kuramaebashi has historical significance dating back to the early Edo period when it housed a shogunate-controlled rice warehouse. The Sumida River Terrace cleverly incorporates the 'kura' (warehouse) ambiance into its walls, creating an especially exciting zone for runners. The stretch leading to Asakusa features a series of visually stunning bridges, adding to the overall beauty of the route.

あの映画で話題になったアオサギがだいたい見れます
You can see the great egrets that gained fame in that movie for the most part.

2023年公開されたジブリ映画「君たちはどう生きるか」で私たちに鮮烈な印象を与えた"アオサギ"、その実物がなんと隅田川沿いでは頻繁に見ることができます。川沿いの手すりに一定の間隔でサギが止まっている様子が走っている途中にたいてい見ることができます。しかも何度も（笑）。近くに寄ってカメラを構えても、人に慣れているのか動じません。ぜひ隅田川をバックにしたサギもお楽しみください。

The 'Aosagi' (Grey Heron) that left a vivid impression on us in the Studio Ghibli film 'How Do You Live?' released in 2023 is actually frequently spotted along the Sumida River. During your run, you can often see these herons perched at regular intervals along the river's railing. What's more, they don't seem to be bothered much, even if you approach them with a camera, often providing multiple opportunities for sightings . Take a moment to enjoy the sight of these herons against the backdrop of the Sumida River.

隅田川沿いを走るなら、どちら方向に何キロくらい走りたいか見当をつけてコースを決めるのがおススメ。月島方面に向かうときには、新川・月島のタワーマンションなど高層ビルが一望できます。「これぞ東京」の近未来感あふれる風景は、東京に住んでいてもテンションがあがります。地方や海外から来た方にも喜んでいただけるはず。浅草方面に向かうときは、浅草をゴールに設定して、浅草寺やグルメなど浅草らしさを味わうのもおススメ。写真はオシャレなカフェなどがある「東京ミズマチ」の広場で開催されていた野外シネマの様子。隅田川沿いには楽しめるスポットが無限大。オリジナルなランコースをぜひカスタムしてみてください！

Heading towards Tsukishima, you'll enjoy a panoramic view of high-rise buildings such as the towers and apartments in Shinkawa and Tsukishima. The futuristic landscape exuding the essence of Tokyo elevates the excitement, even for residents. Visitors from other regions or countries are likely to appreciate the experience as well. When heading towards Asakusa, consider setting Asakusa as your endpoint and savor the unique charm of Asakusa, including Asakusa Temple and local cuisine.
